High Performance Sound Absorption

Achieving broadband sound absorption with extremely thin materials is one of the longstanding challenges in acoustics. FISH Innovation has developed a metamaterial platform that delivers high absorption across wide frequency ranges at depths far below the acoustic wavelength.

The technology is based on a coupled-resonator mechanism that produces controlled anti-symmetric motion and strong phase interaction within the material. This enables the absorption behaviour to be matched to a wide range of acoustic environments.

Extensive analytical, numerical and experimental work has demonstrated:

–  High absorption with ultra-thin dimensions

–  Adaptable performance via controlled detuning

Additionally, the technology is scalable across multiple frequency domains, including airborne, underwater and electromagnetic applications

This platform has been evaluated in environments where traditional materials cannot be used — including automotive and aerospace interiors, critical listening spaces, and other applications where mass and depth must be minimised.
